Argosy III - Alexander Rawles
Stop No. 37Location: Orgainsville, Mecklenburg County, VirginiaPhotographer: Alexander RawlesDate: May 2008
Argosy Journal:I
received the World Argosy III Argus in person from my friend Ron
Norwood at the 2008 Argus Collector's Group Gathering in Eden, North
Carolina. After using the Argosy Argus in Eden, I took the camera home
with me to Mecklenburg County, Virginia.
The Photographs:
The
first photo is of a few thirsty flowers on my recently deceased
grandfather's grave in the family cemetery on my parents' farm. Beyond
the grave is the family church.

The
second photo is of a metal bulk barn that is also located on my
parents' farm. Until recent years, this bulk barn was used to cure
tobacco before being taken to auction. The photo also shows my attempt
at painting over the yellow "Powell" lettering and green tobacco leaf
outline. The dying market for domestic tobacco has hit Southside
Virginia hard. As a result, the tobacco barns that once saturated the
area's landscape are slowly rotting and rusting away.
